EAST HAMPTON, NEW YORK
The intent of the design on this two-acre property was to create a powerfully distinct precinct separate from the untouched woods on the property and the adjacent land. This intense contrast powerfully underlines the relationship between nature and art. Magnificent and unusual flowers, shrubs and trees overlay the structure of the garden created by trees and hedges. Large native trees which are part of the forest dictated the placement of the house and the structure of the landscape so that these trees become landmarks, marking space and making manifest their sculptural quality.
